Hello, and thank you for stopping by. As the in-house Craft Maker at Hochanda, I am regularly given card kits to build and create for upcoming shows. This means that I have a lot of left-over elements from lots of different kits. It would be easy for me to forget about some of the card stock and embellishments I have acquired, and they can sit at the bottom of a drawer or get thrown away without much thought. I really hate waste, so Instead of restricting myself to just using the elements within one kit, I love to mix them up to see what else can be created with the left-over pieces in my crafty stash. By combining a glittery sticker set with Graphic 45 papers and some paper flowers here’s a quick and easy project that you might like to try.
Getting started…
Find an old box, any old box and hunt through your old paper stash for something you really like. I chose a set of wintery Christmas themed stickers that I wanted to use up, they are very shiny with lots of glitter!
Measure the paper by using your box as a template. I used a lead pencil to draw around the box then cut them with a paper trimmer. I cut it slightly smaller than the original line as I still wanted the black background from the box to be seen. This allows it to look more polished.
You could also go around the edges of each piece of paper with an ink pad, marker pen or pencil, to add a distressed look. Depending on the paper you use, you can also add colour by using your pens and pencils. Do all of this before sticking them to the box. I used double side sticky tape for this.
I then cut the sheet of gold glitter paper into thin strips and attached them to the top of the paper. I used them to frame the face of the girl in my papers, but they would look lovely around the edges, or as a central piece. Feel free to experiment and have a play.
Then continue to cover the sides of your box with the papers and add the glitter strips where you want them.
How to add embellishments and finishing touches
When you have covered all sides of the box, measure the size of paper required for the top by using the box as your template. Cut it a bit smaller in order to still see the black frame of the box and stick the silver and gold corner embellishments to all 4 corners of the box.
Find an image, or an embellishment for the centre piece of the box. I found a pretty postcard from the Graphic 45 papers and cut the gold glitter paper slightly bigger along with some black card, to matt and layer.
I adhered some cream flowers to the top of the box in the shape of an arch. This allowed the postcard to sit at an angle, while also giving the box more character. You can use your fingers to curl the top of the postcard as that will allow it to sit much better.
I finished the box off with some little gold beads to sit on the base of the gold strips.
A pretty finished craft project for Christmas
By mixing and matching elements from the card kit with existing items in my craft stash, I have been able to create a quick and easy Christmas project, that can be adapted to suit any occasion.
By using different papers, you will get a completely different look, which opens the door to countless opportunities.
