Why is the Liberty Snowflakes Quilt for me?

Alice Caroline are Liberty fabric specialists. With over 600 Liberty fabrics to choose from, this quilt has the best of Liberty fabrics within its design. The full quilt comprises of nine gorgeous blocks which use the traditional technique of English Paper Piecing as well as appliqué to make up your full block. Designed by Alice Caroline, this stunning Snowflakes Quilt is inspired by snowflakes – as in the case of a snowflake, each block is different and unique. What’s wonderful is that you don’t have to make the full quilt, you can use any number of blocks to add some style to your home, using them as wall-hangings is just one of their many other uses!

The Fabric

Liberty Tana Lawn is used in the quilt with a beautiful array of colour in the 48 different Liberty Tana Lawn fabrics used. The vibrant colour in the blocks is complemented by the Liberty Tana Lawn ‘white on white Lodden’ fabric used as the background. Lodden was originally designed by William Morris and is one of the great arts and crafts textile designs of the past. After being designed in 1884, it was re-scaled and re-coloured by Liberty to make their own design. The white on white colourway is beautiful and delicate.

How it works

English Paper Piecing (EPP) forms the basis of this lovely quilt. Dating back to the 1700’s, this method of quilting is steeped in tradition. Fabric is wrapped around paper shapes, then sewn together to ‘piece’ the quilt. In this quilt, the EPP’d blocks are then appliquéd onto the background fabric. This is a very transportable quilt and EPP is a great way to sew whether you are out and about or relaxing at home. The finished quilt is 62” squared can be used as your wall-hanging, lap quilt or throw!
