Hi! It’s Loti here from Mama Makes,
Hochanda asked me to write a little piece about journaling and scrapbooking which I think, during these unpredictable times, is so important. I think we owe it to our generation, to journal what is happening while we are staying home and living in such a crazy world. Even the most boring, will become the most fascinating in years to come.
Aside from this, I have always found journaling and scrapbooking so important. I used to work in the phone shop and I saw so many customers in tears because their phones were broken and all of their photographs and videos had been lost. There was no way to retrieve pictures of their babies birth, their graduation or their grandsons first steps. I cannot urge people enough to print off their photographs and journal those moments. I would love to find something my grandparents made and read what their day to days lives were like, and I’m sure the next generations will be just as intrigued.
Not only is it important, but it’s fun too! I am a total sucker for pretty paper, and find joy in flicking through them all finding the colours to match the ones in my photographs. Then I will think about that moment and look for ephemera to reflect what the picture is of or how that moment felt. As for journaling, I really don’t like my handwriting, so I have a 1970’s typewriter in my craft room where I type on patterned paper that tie into the colour scheme I have on the page.
I’ve recorded a video of the process of one of my pages and I hope it gives you the inspiration to take your memories back from technology, and put them into a beautiful scrapbook or journal.
Stay crafty!
