Mother’s Day has been and gone and we’ve been dying for another occasion to showcase our crafting. Luckily for us it’s only one week until St Patrick’s Day and what better way to celebrate everyone’s favourite holiday than to make your very own decorations and accessories.

Brush Up On Your St Patrick’s Day Knowledge:

St Patrick’s Day is celebrated the world over but as we all know the origins of this holiday are deeply rooted in Irish culture, in fact, we’re all Irish when we’re celebrating! St Patrick is one of Ireland’s Patron Saints and St Patrick’s Day is held in his commemoration every year on the 17th of March to mark the anniversary of his death. He is celebrated for many reasons, but our favourite legend (and we say legend because it is just that, sadly) is that he managed to banish all the snakes from the Emerald Isle into the sea! The earliest recorded St Patrick’s Day Parade occurred in New York City in 1762, held by Irish Soldiers, however it was in 1931 that Ireland saw it’s first official Parade and celebrations have been getting bigger and better ever since, with the New York City St Patrick’s Day Parade being one of the largest parades in the world.

Now For The Fun Stuff:

Enough facts though, we want to know how we can focus our passion for crafting to help us celebrate!

The Shamrock is synonymous with Paddy’s Day, so why not create your own in a variety of styles? Check out this beautiful rainbow version from Twitchetts, or maybe try your hand at Martha Stewart’s straw toppers.

Garlands and wreaths are a charming way to decorate your home, especially if you’ll be entertaining during the celebrations. This yarn wreath from Heather And Devan is a beautiful and unique way to show off your Irish pride! If wreaths aren’t for you, garlands can work as a versatile decoration and can be used anywhere. We love this crochet one from Skip To My Lou.

Finally, what would a holiday be without sending your loved ones hand made cards to wish them well (and show off your crafting skills!)? This idea from Oh Happy Day is simple and really effective, and of course involves chocolate!

There are so many great crafts you can create for this occasion and we’ve rounded up a few of our favourites on our Pinterest page to get your imagination flowing.
