Welcome back once again to your favourite blog – Crafters’ Spotlight! This is where we turn the spotlight on you, our crafting audience, who keep us inspired by your passion and allow us to keep doing what we do. Last month, we celebrated the work of the lovely Julie Rankin, if you missed it, check it out here.

Now, let’s find out who our star in the spotlight is this month…

Introducing… Alison Markham

Tell us a bit about yourself?

I’m Alison Markham and I live in Telford in Shropshire, but I’m originally from a small village in Dorset. I have two grown up children. I have been a teaching assistant in a Primary School for the last 23 years, where I run the schools Nurture Group.

I have been a crafter in one form or another since I was a child. I started doing embroidery when one of the nurses taught me during a stay in hospital. I then learnt to knit and make rag rugs and finally moved on to paper crafting, stamping and mixed media when I split from my ex husband and my children were teenagers, as something to fill my spare time.

I’m not sure what my favourite make is. I tend to favour my latest make.

Have you tried any new crafting styles recently? How did it go?

In the last year I have started to do art and junk journaling and am now totally hooked.

My inspiration tends to come from the products I am using, whether they be papers, ephemera or stamps.

My maternal grandmother was a knitter and a seamstress and my mother used to knit but no one else does paper crafting.

I don’t have a craft room as such, but as I live alone I use my dining room as my crafty space. I store my inks and sprays in easily accessible boxes on the table, along with all my pens, paints and brushes. My stamps and papers are in storage boxes on shelving behind where I sit. The room has great natural light from a huge window which is great when I’m.
