Back in May we gave you a sneak peek to an exciting new supplier that will be joining us, so before their first shows we thought we’d get together with the very talented Tracey Evans, the Powertex Guest so you can all get to know her just a little bit better!
Introduce yourself.
I’m Tracey Evans. I’m a wife, mother, arts and crafts enthusiast, and Creative Director of Powertex UK.
Tell us how you got into Powertex, was it something that you had always wanted to do?
Arts and crafts have been a passion of mine for a long time. I love to create and experiment with a variety of methods and mediums…but when I discovered Powertex, everything else got left on the shelf. I couldn’t believe that this amazing product wasn’t more widely available.
After that, events just seemed to unfold and before I knew it my husband Garry and I were journeying to Belgium to pitch our business proposal to the owner of Powertex International!
When you are not creating, what else do you like doing for fun?
Before I took on Powertex UK I used to live in La Manga, Spain, and it still holds a special place in my heart. So whenever I can, I go back there for some relaxation and sunshine.
What does a typical week look like for you?
No two days are the same at Tex Towers, but typically I’m in the office in the morning, and the workshop in the afternoon. We try to balance work and play!
What do you love about Powertex?
For me, the best thing about Powertex is its versatility. The only limit is your imagination!
How do you get inspired? Is there anybody that you follow for inspiration?
My main inspiration comes from Brigitte Grade the founder of Powertex and then to be honest I think we are so lucky these day that we see so much beautiful work on the internet we cannot help to pick up ideas and information, and sometimes we cannot remember exactly whose work has inspired us!
Could you give us five top tips for beginners?
1 – Protect your work surface with plastic… and then you can make as much mess as you want.
2 – Just go with it – whether you’re sculpting with fabric or painting on canvas, don’t worry about being too precise. Allow the materials to do what they want to do.
3 – Don’t panic! Mistakes can be rectified. It WILL look great when it’s finished!
4 – Practice your dry brushing – this technique will transform your fabric sculptures.
5 – Have a nosey on our website and find your nearest certified Powertex Tutor. They can give you one to one guidance, and let you know about Powertex workshops near you.
And for the future? What’s next for you?
The Powertex UK family is growing rapidly; we have new Tutor’s and Stockists popping up all over the country. In the future, we’re excited to see more and more crafters and artists embracing Powertex and creating their own beautifully unique artwork. We’re also looking forward to adding even more exciting new products to the Powertex range… Watch this space!
