JMC Designs is a company where products are designed by crafters for crafters. Julia McNeill has been surrounded by various crafts and crafty influences her whole life, from art lessons on the beach with her uncle, sewing with her Gran and Mum and collage and model building with her Nan, she really has tried her hand at most forms of arts and crafts throughout the years. Whilst receiving help for severe anxiety she was encouraged by her therapist to share some of her artwork on social media, to allow herself to be seen. She followed through on this advice and was met with may requests to make her artwork available for the crafting community. As a result JMC Designs was launched in 2019 and has grown from strength to strength since then.
So, without further ado, here’s how to make an Under The Sea card with JMC Designs
You Will Need
JMC Designs – Under The Sea Stamps
JMC Designs – Circles and Large Cog stencil
Card – Some form of watercolour card (I have used Dolly Dimples Mixed Media card)
Distress Ink (I have used mustard seed, cracked pistachio, peacock feathers, mermaid lagoon, faded jeans and black suit)
Black Chisel Nip Pen
Black Micro pen
Step One:
Tear some paper and use it to create a wave effect by blending your distress ink against the paper.
Step Two:
Take some stencils and add more detail to your piece, by blending ink through the stencils. Then splash with water and lift off the ink. After this step you may wish to add a little more stencil detail.
Step Three:
Take some water and create some diagonal lines from the top right to bottom left, leave a few seconds for the water to do the work and lift the pigment from the paper. Then use a rag to lift off the water leaving an effect of shafts of light.
Step Four:
Increase the colour, along the bottom edge and left hand side of the piece. I used distress inks mermaid lagoon, faded jeans and black suit for this step. This helps to add real depth and mimics the depth of the ocean.
Step Five:
Arrange your stamped images and glue in place. Finally edge your piece with a black pen and a few extra doodles.
We hope that you have enjoyed this fabulous video tutorial from JMC Designs, and we cant wait to see you on February 1st at 3pm & 7pm on Hochanda to celebrate their anniversary!
