Introducing the Team……Becky

We promised you the Hochanda team were full to the brim with talented people – here’s the lovely Becky……

Being part of the buying team must be really exciting – especially in a brand new company. Are you enjoying the challenge of getting new companies and products to share with the viewers?

This is a very exciting role! I spend a lot of time sourcing companies and products to bring on to Hochanda; I love researching new product (and testing them out)!, meeting all of the different suppliers and learning all about their processes and products. Then the team put exciting ideas together for shows to inspire the viewers to pursue a new craft project. We have some great shows coming up to look forward to!

Tell us a little bit about your creativity, what did you study at Uni?

I studied Textiles Design at Loughborough University and went on to specialise in Printed Textiles, both screen printing and digital printing.

I have always loved drawing and making things, it definitely runs in my family. I think the main thing to do is to enjoy crafty projects, try experiment with different medias, don’t be too precious and neat, try layering and repeating different things. I am one of those people who collects everything from shiny papers to old buttons, these bits can then be saved for craft projects.

I love the variation in all the things you brought in, did you experiment with lots of different techniques?

Thank you! Yes I try to work with a variety of medias. If I am doing a drawing, pattern or an illustration, it usually ends up being more of a collage. I have experimented with various printing techniques such as lino, screen printing, stamping, etching, flocking to name but a few. In my final year I became more experimental and started printing on to furniture.

Our of all the processes you learnt at Uni, did you have a favourite?

I loved spending time in the print room, mixing up dyes and testing colours on different fabrics, woods and papers. Screen printing is great fun! Before hand I enjoyed putting sketch books together going out and finding inspiration and then finally going on to create my final pieces.

Haha, I have never even considered that! I am a bit of a messy crafter so I am not sure if they would have me. But never say never!
