Dawn Bibby MDF Pet Embellishments by Sharon Holden

Hi everyone and welcome back to my blog. Hope you are all keeping well. I can’t believe that we are now getting into the early dark nights again so soon! Autumn is definitely on its way. The heatwave seems so long ago now. I suppose in one way for all us crafters it does mean we get to craft a lot more with the dark nights drawing in, well that is my excuse anyway.

For this months blog I thought I would show you Dawn Bibbys brand new MDF frames and pet embellishments, these are perfect for putting your favourite pet photographs in and displaying. You could also use them on all your cards and mixed media projects aswell as home decor. I chose to make a photo frame out of mine for my brother Steven, he had a Labrador called “Eric”, incase anybody is wondering my brother is a huge Manchester United fan and named him after “Eric Cantona”,  hence why I have concentrated on red, white and black in colour.

For this project you will need

  • Dawn Bibby MDF frame (I used only the front of the frame)
  • Dawn Bibby MDF pet embellishments
  • Craft Buddy Crystal Glazes in garnet, citrine and onyx
  • Craft Buddy Crystal drops in white
  • Dawn Bibby Frililea die
  • Pointed resin gems
  • Dawn Bibby embossing tool set/embossing mat
  • Gold and red mirri card
  • Black card
  • Craft Buddy Nested Alphabet dies
  • Craft Buddy and Craig Laird triple Criss cross background die
  • Black ribbon
  • Dawn Bibby quick stick glue
  • Glue gel
  • Hot glue gun

  1. First of all I started by painting the MDF frame with the Garnet and white glazes (you can use the glaze straight from the bottle but I attached Dawns copper tips to the end for precision painting)
  2. I then painted the dog with the onyx glaze and painted his tongue with the Garnet
  3. The MDF bones I painted with the citrine glaze
  4. The MDF heart I painted with the Garnet glaze
  5. The MDF paws I painted using the onyx glaze, I then put them all to one side to dry. I did leave overnight to ensure they were dried completely
  6. Cut a piece of gold mirri to fit onto the back of the frame, then die cut the Criss cross die out in black and matt onto the gold mirri. Stick this onto to the back of your frame
  7. Matt your chosen photo onto red mirri card and glue into the centre of your frame, add your heart onto the top corner of your photo
  8. Die cut the name of your pet out of the nested alphabet dies in black (I used the inner cut letters) and attach to the right hand side of your frame
  9. Die cut the frililea out in red and black (3 of each), shape them and then alternate the petals red, black, red etc, glue each layer and finish with a pointed resin gem in the centre, attach to the bottom right of the frame and add a couple of leaves behind the flower
  10. Glue the MDF dog to the left of the frame
  11. Add the MDF bones and paw prints where you wish
  12. Add ribbon to the back to hang up

I think this is a beautiful keepsake for anybody and you will also have fun in making it. I hope you have enjoyed this tutorial, I would love to know what you think.

See you all soon, take care

Sharon x
