Tonic Studios Birthday Card Tutorial by Tracy Sutton

Hello again everyone, I hope you are well.  I’m really excited about this blog.  Tonic Studios are celebrating their first anniversary right here on Hochanda.  Can’t believe it’s been a whole year since they joined the channel.  I love Tonic products – the dies are just the best and always cut like a dream.  My mum first introduced me to Tonic a number of years ago when they did punches to match the die sets.  She is to blame for my Tonic obsession, some might say I’m a big Tonic fan.  I love the Facebook lives that Owain, Dan, Ali and Karen put out on a weekly basis, they are really inspiring.  Anyway, I thought I’d make a little card using the dies I bought when Tonic launched a year ago on Hochanda.  Let’s hope that there are many more years to come.  Tonic are just an amazing company and always have a special place in my heart and Mum’s. They all sent get well cards when mum fell a couple of years ago which was totally amazing.
You will need:
  • 1 x Tonic Entwined Hearts Idyllics embossing folder and die set.
  • Greetings die of your choice
  • 1 x 7×7 card.
  • Craft Perfect pearlised card in two colours.
  • Silver mirri card.
  • Ribbon of your choice.
  • Gem for centre of bow (optional).
  • 3D foam pads.
  • Wet glue (to stick down die) (I’ve used Nuvo glue)
  • Double sided tape.
Stage 1: Cut your card stock, I’ve cut the craft perfect pink and navy 6 inches square and the silver mirri roughly 6¼ inches.  Place the lighter shade in the embossing folder and pass through your machine.
Stage 1
Stage 2: Tape the die to one of the edges of the darker card and die cut.  Noting that this die has two parts the main part cuts into the card and the second is the “verso” edge which cuts out of the card and stick onto the embossed light card ensuring that the embossed images show through the die cut image.  Take care not to apply too much glue to the die cut image.
Stage 2
Stage 3: Stick your mirri to the blank card ensuring you have the card the right way around.  Put 3D foam on the back of the light coloured card and stick on top of the mirri card ensuring the edges are equal on all sides.
Stage 3
Stage 4: Cut two of your greetings, one out of the dark card and one out of the mirri and create a drop shadow effect by sticking one on top of the other and stick onto your card.
Stage 4
Stage 5: Add your bows and other embellishments.
Stage 5
Hope you enjoyed this tutorial.  Hope to see you again soon.
Love Tracy
