We’re so excited to introduce to you another brand new supplier, Scrabble® Art bought to Hochanda by the lovely Linda. Before her shows we had a little catch up with her so you could get to know her a little bit more…
Tell us how you got into Scrabble Art, was it something that you had always wanted to do?
I got into Scrabble Art completely by accident. My husband made one of our family names for a present. Friends and family saw this and commented how lovely it was and how they would like one. So I set about sourcing some Scrabble tiles and frames that would suit. The word spread and then I found that I was making more and more and getting paid for it.
Paul was on Twitter and tweeted Stephen Fry and started having a conversation about the art and he was saying how wonderful it was. Mattel picked up on this conversation and telephoned me to say that they loved what I had created and ask me if I would like to go to their head office to discuss opportunities with them. From my visit I was granted a Scrabble License to produce the artwork and other products. Everything l create is officially approved and licensed by Mattel and I am the only person in the UK that has gained permission to create Scrabble Art. That was 6 years ago
I like to relax by watching TV, baking cakes, reading books and running my favourite author is James Patterson the fictional crime writer.
What was your “first” when I grow up I want to be….?
I can’t really remember as it was a long time ago!! But I think it was a secretary which wasn’t very exciting but my first job after college was a secretary for a firm of solicitors.
What does a typical week look like for you?
My week is never the same, in fact, each day is different. But generally I start by answering questions and designing and then onto making the artwork.
What’s been your favourite piece you have created to date?
I can’t really say what my favourite piece is as every day is different and I am always amazed by all the different designs I get asked to create.
What do you love about Scrabble Art?
Something so simple that can be created into something very beautiful and meaningful.
How do you get inspired? Is there anybody that you follow for inspiration?
I am always looking for new ideas. So I look on the internet and when I am out shopping if I see any words or phrases that catch my eye. I take photos and then see what I can create with it.
And for the future? What’s next for you?
To carry on making and creating pieces of art for people to enjoy. There is nothing better than to receive an email from someone that has bought one of my pieces and the reaction they get when they give it to the recipient. A lot of the time customer says that it made them cry with joy which is when I know I have done and great piece of work, which is so personal and special to the recipient.
